Key-man or keyman critical illness insurance
Much the same as ordinary key man life insurance critical illness insurance
just pays out the benefit in the event of the life assured suffering one of
the listed critical conditions.
The critical illness benefit in keyman plans operates in exactly the same
way as it would in a normal life insurance policy. As such we find that it
is mostly taken as a bolt on to a normal key man life insurance contract and
not as a standalone plan. This is due mainly to the fact that a company
would not want just a payment in the event of a critical illness but also in
the event of death. For example if the life assured did not have a critical
illness instead they just died it would render a standalone critical illness
plan useless to the company, which would leave them in the very position
they are seeking to avoid by taking out the plan in the first place.
